Account & subscriptions

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google and can only be cancelled through your device's subscription settings. We can't cancel them on your behalf.

  • iPhone / iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Swellwire → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Google Play app → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Swellwire → Cancel.

Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. You can keep using premium features until then.

How do I get a refund?

All Swellwire purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refund requests must go through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com for App Store purchases or Google Play's refund page for Play Store purchases. We're happy to support your case — just email us.

How do I delete my account?

Visit swellwire.com/account/delete while signed in. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, saved spots, and preferences. It does not cancel an active subscription — cancel that with Apple or Google first.

I'm being charged but the app says I'm on the free plan.

This is almost always a sync issue. Try, in order:

  1. Force-close and reopen the app.
  2. In the app, tap Account → Restore purchases.
  3. If you're still on the free plan after that, email us with the subscription receipt from Apple or Google and we'll fix it manually.

Forecasts & data

Where does Swellwire's data come from?

All forecast and observation data comes directly from public NOAA sources. We don't use third-party brokers.

  • Buoy observations: NOAA NDBC, refreshed every 30 minutes.
  • Weather forecasts: NOAA NWS API.
  • Extended swell forecasts (up to 16 days): NOAA GFS-Wave global 0.25° GRIB2.
  • Atmosphere & chemistry overlays: NOAA GFS, refreshed every 6 hours.
How accurate is the forecast?

Marine forecasts get less accurate the further out they go. The first 72 hours are typically reliable; days 4–7 are directional; beyond that, treat the data as a planning aid, not a guarantee. Conditions can change quickly. Always verify with on-the-water observation before paddling out.

A spot near me is missing or shows the wrong location.

Email us with the spot name, the closest landmark, and ideally the latitude / longitude. We add and correct spots regularly.

Why does an ocean cell show no data?

GFS-Wave occasionally reports null values for grid cells very close to shore, in enclosed bays, or in regions with sea ice. Swellwire falls back to the nearest valid cell, but for some locations no nearby cell is available. Buoy and NWS data are usually still reported in those cases.

Troubleshooting

The app is stuck on a loading screen.

Try in this order:

  1. Pull-to-refresh.
  2. Force-close and reopen the app.
  3. Check that you have an internet connection.
  4. Sign out and back in (Account → Sign out, then sign in again).
  5. If still stuck, email us with a screenshot — please include the app version, which is listed at the bottom of the Account screen.
The map / globe is blank.

The globe uses WebGL. If your device's graphics drivers are out of date, the canvas may render blank. Updating to the latest OS version usually fixes this. On older Android devices we recommend the 2D map view — switch projection from the globe menu.

Sign-in fails or loops.

This is almost always caused by an outdated app build talking to a newer backend. Update Swellwire to the latest version in the App Store or Play Store and try again. If it still fails, email us with the email address you tried to sign in with and the time of the attempt.
